Captain Oliver's Resort is home to exotic birds, sharks, turtles and a variety of other creatures. The birds often greet guests with a Hi and Hello before crossing the International Bridge entrance to Captain Oliver's Restaurant. Many of the birds that call Captain Oliver's home were once pets of people living on the island. When they needed to move off the island they wanted a place where their pets would be well taken care of and get a lot of attention. And they love all the attention they get at Captain Oliver's.

The sharks, turtles, tarpon and other native marine life are located in a natural aquarium beside and under the glass floor of Captain Oliver's Restaurant. Martha and Tina turtle have been living at Captain Oliver's for over 17 years. They were brought to Captain Oliver's for the purpose of becoming turtle soup - a very popular dish in the islands at that time. But fortunately for Martha and Tina, Captain Oliver saved them from that fate.

The Hawkbill turtle is now considered to be one of the most endangered sea turtles in the world. Captain Oliver's has an exclusive exemption of the CITES law, simply for the fact that it will be beneficial for these two sea turtles.

Martha and Tina Turtle will continue to be well cared for here at Captain Oliver's Restaurant. Occasionally injured sea turtles are rescued by the Marine Park and may be brought here for rehabilitation in close connection with the Nature Foundation of St. Maarten. The Nature Foundation also extends their expertise and knowledge to the management and staff at Captain Oliver's Restaurant. Additionally, proper education and public awareness can be provided to the public, local schools and tourists alike to learn more about these endangered and precious animals.

Don't forget to stop by and say Hi to Edith, Edward and Eddy the iguanas at The Iquana Bar.
